A tradition of Kerala, India, Theyyams are performed by a specific individual Hindi caste that have the right to perform certain deities. The Kandanar Kelan Theyyam or fire Theyyam is one of the most spectacular and dangerous as palm fronds and coals are stoked until the flames reach 2 meters or more. After transforming through a series of prayers and rituals, the deity performer, repeated runs through the fire.
