Away from the masses of worshipers who gather along the sacred Ganges River to bath for remission of sins, wash laundry, and burn the bodies of the faithful, are the back streets where locals buy vegetables and goods. It is typical throughout India to cows wandering the streets and in roads. They have status of a Mother (Goddess) for their life giving milk and are considered sacred in Hinduism.
